Remote Learning
Our Personalised Approach
At Oak Lodge School, we recognise that every student has unique learning needs. When a student needs to work remotely – whether due to illness, medical appointments, or other circumstances – we provide a flexible, personalised support package designed specifically for them.
We understand that many of our students require hands-on support, visual aids, and familiar routines to learn effectively, and our remote education offer reflects this.
What We Offer
When your child needs to learn remotely, we'll work with you to create a bespoke package that may include:
Online Learning Platforms
Access to:
- RM Easimaths – interactive maths activities tailored to individual ability
- Discovery Education – engaging video content and interactive resources
- Doodle Maths – personalised maths practice with instant feedback
- Doodle English – literacy activities adapted to your child's level
We'll provide all login details and guidance on accessing these platforms at home.
Individual Video Sessions
- Regular video calls with your child's class teacher or teaching assistant
- Small group sessions to maintain connection with classmates
- 1-to-1 support for students who need more intensive guidance
- Sessions scheduled at times that work for your family
Physical Learning Packs
We know screen-based learning isn't always appropriate. We can provide:
- Printed work packs with familiar activities
- Sensory materials where appropriate
- Visual supports including symbols, pictures, and simplified instructions
- Hands-on activities that don't require technology
Packs can be delivered to your home or collected from school.
Staying Connected and Home Visits
Regular Contact
Your child's class teacher or key worker will maintain contact through phone calls to check in on progress and wellbeing and messages via Compass.
Home Visits
For students who need face-to-face support, we can arrange regular visits from familiar staff members, welfare checks to maintain relationships and monitor wellbeing, practical support with learning activities, and delivery and collection of learning materials.
Support for Families
We're here to help with clear instructions with all activities, technical support for online platforms, realistic expectations – we don't expect you to be a teacher, and flexibility to adapt based on what's working.
Safeguarding
Your child's safety and wellbeing remain our top priority during remote learning. We will maintain regular contact and follow our usual safeguarding procedures during all video calls and home visits. If you have any safeguarding concerns, please contact Kelvin Brown (Designated Safeguarding Lead) immediately.
Working Together
Remote learning works best when we work in partnership. We will discuss and agree the remote learning package with you before it starts, review regularly what's working and adjust as needed, keep you informed about your child's progress, and listen to your feedback.
We prioritise meaningful learning over quantity. Your child's wellbeing is more important than completing every task.
Getting Started
If your child needs to access remote learning, please contact a member of the leadership team as soon as possible: Sarah Dann (Deputy Head), Martha Pierce (Assistant Headteacher), Rebecca O'Connell (Assistant Headteacher), or Charlotte Charlesworth (Headteacher) so we can:
- Discuss your child's specific needs
- Arrange login details for online platforms
- Prepare and deliver learning packs
- Schedule video sessions and/or home visits
- Agree communication arrangements
Note: Any resources sent home are on loan from school and should be returned when your child returns to school.
For questions or suggestions, please contact the school office.
